The Sisters Grimm is a space rock opera that follows the misadventures of a punk band, set against the backdrop of a Martian revolution. Written by Dave Pauwels with art by Nicolas R. Giacondino, The Sisters Grimm takes place on a colonized Mars in the year 2339.
Mars is in a period of political turmoil, with civil war looming. Mining strikes and ice riots have caused the corporate authorities to tighten their control of Mars’ dwindling resources. Various revolutionary groups, like the Martian Liberation Front, answer by launching attacks against the monolithic Combine Security Forces. Mars is a powder keg, waiting for a single spark to ignite a planet…
This is where the Sisters Grimm come in. A struggling garage band with no particular political views to speak of, the Sisters inadvertently become symbols of the Free Mars movement. The band is lead by guitarist and song-writer, Vikki Grimm. Taryn Vexx, the band’s haughty bass player, comes from one of Mars’ oldest aristocratic families. Samantha Darkness, the drummer, works part-time as a dancer when she doesn’t have a gig with theband.
Updated weekly, the webcomic also has an extensive set of background sections. These sections detail life on 2339 Mars, from the history of the colonization to the latest news from the Martian music scene. There is also a “B-sides” section that includes concept art and promo pieces.
